One of the many things that make books magical is how they expose us to worlds, cultures, and lifestyles we might never have known about. A truly great book can get us so excited about the lives of the characters that we want to live that way too!
As a kid, I DEFINITELY spent a lot of time pretending to live in different time periods and countries, but I often overlooked how books piqued my interest in new activities. Looking back, there were TONS of subjects I got passionate about after reading about them…and it still happens today! Here are my top ten things I wanted to learn/do after reading books about it. Enjoy! 🙂

Happy Tuesday! I’m prepping for a camping trip this week, so this post is going up a little later than usual. But better late than never, right? Originally I wanted to write a top 10 episodes post (in keeping with my current Star Trek theme), but it proved to be super intimidating. I’ve only seen the whole series once, so remembering what happened in the early episodes was tough. To kick start my brain, I tried to think of my favorite character moments, and I had so much fun reminiscing, I decided to do a post on that instead!
Below are my top 10 funniest character moments from Star Trek: The Next Generation. If you’re a fan of the show, you probably remember these moments. And if you’ve never seen Star Trek, these may inspired you to give it a try! 🙂
P.S. Even though I’m posting this now, I’m going to link it to next week’s TTT prompt, since that’s a freebie week.

We all have favorite book characters for sure (Fred Weasley! Jo March! HERCULE POIROT!…..* ahem * I’m done.), but there’s something about the characters we read about as kids that gives them a special place in our hearts. It’s more than simple nostalgia—I like to think it’s genuine friendship. Fictional or not, these people are just as integral to the sharing and shaping of our childhood as any real person. Sometimes more.
But real people grow up. They change, have families, and go off on their own adventures. Our favorite childhood book characters don’t do that unless we’re blessed with a sequel or an epilogue, but that doesn’t stop us from wondering what might have become of them.
This is my list of favorite childhood characters I’d like to revisit as adults. For most, I’ve added my musings about their potential futures, but I want to hear what you think about them too! Do you imagine their fates differently? Exactly the same? Let me know! 🙂

I think one of the best things about being a book blogger is the sense of community. Reading has traditionally been considered a solitary activity, so we readers appreciate it that much more when we meet someone who loves the same books we do. Of course, Twitter plays a huge part in maintaining the online reading community, and the 10 accounts listed below are the bookish “tweeters” I simply couldn’t do without. They’re clever, insightful, and often hilarious—a blessing to all book lovers everywhere! 🙂

Food and books. They’re kinda my thing. So much so that my blog has changed the way I read. Now when I’m reading a book strictly for pleasure that won’t appear on the blog, I still reach for my pencil to make a note when the author mentions food. It’s made me notice a few things, most especially that authors can get really creative in how they use food to forward the story.

I’m a big fan of myths, folklore, and historical fiction. That’s part of why I love the classics so much! It’s great to step into a character’s shoes and experience a time period I’ll never see for real. However, I think the BEST thing about historical lit is that it shows how certain aspects of human life are universal and timeless. Sure, I may never break a slate over someone’s head like Anne Shirley did when she got made fun of in Anne of Green Gables, but I know what it feels like to be teased. I may not move to a post-Civil War NYC boarding house and meet a German professor like Jo from Little Women, but I know the fear and excitement of striking out on my own. And I think that’s the big draw behind historical fiction: we get to make personal connections with people from another time period.

This past weekend before a tutoring session at the library, I completed a mission I’ve been looking forward to for weeks: getting out my giant 2016 To Be Read list and hunting down as many books as possible. And I was pretty proud of my efforts! Unfortunately, I’m a combo of slow reader and type-of-reader-who-can-only-read-one-book-at-a-time, so I had to pace myself and only get three. I just keep reminding myself I have all year to read them all, especially since my library has all the ones I want to read most…
