Normally I wouldn’t have our first non-book inspired menu so early in the year, but I’m a wild X-Files fan. So you can only imagine how much I flailed when I heard a new season was coming out. I decided I didn’t care that it was only February and that it might be a bit weird to follow up King Arthur with a sci-fi show. Abnegation Pea Pod Fries
In Divergent, Tris associates two foods with her home faction of Abnegation: plain peas and chicken breast. When she’s feeling homesick, she finds herself drawn to these foods in the Dauntless lunchroom. She doesn’t realize it at the time, but the reasons Tris feels so torn between Abnegation and Dauntless is because she’s a blend of the two. Today, we’re paying tribute to Tris’ Divergent nature with a side dish fit for both factions: Abnegation Pea Pod Fries, simple roasted peas-in-the-pod with just a little Dauntless cayenne kick, inspired by a recipe by The Smart Cookie Cook. A fitting side dish for our Dauntless Burger!
The Witch’s Hot Chocolate
Yay for bonus recipes! Since January has an extra week in it, we’re finishing up our Narnia menu with a fifth recipe: the White Witch’s hot chocolate, a companion drink to the Turkish delight she presents to Edmund in her sledge. Technically, we don’t know what the Witch gave Edmund to drink, only that it was “very sweet and foamy and creamy, and warmed him right down to his toes.” This homemade hot chocolate recipe developed by Martina at Eat Your Kimchi fits that description to a T.
Loamhedge Legacy Nutbread
This side dish comes to you straight from The Redwall Cookbook! I love it because it’s simple and wholesome, just as a Redwall Abbey recipe should be. Plus, the cayenne pepper ties in with our appetizer, and the nuts will tie in beautifully with our dessert! I wasn’t able to snag a copy of the cookbook itself, so I accessed the recipe through The Half Cut Cook.
