As a holiday based entirely around food, Thanksgiving holds a special place in my heart. Yet as much as I love it, deciding what to cook can be a little intimidating. If you have a potluck-style dinner like my family, pretty much every relative has their “thing” that they make every year. Finding something traditional and festive that someone else isn’t already making can be a challenge. However, a great way to circumvent this problem is to make a dish that uses iconic Thanksgiving flavors in a new way. I’m making Deeper ‘n Ever Turnip ‘n Tater ‘n Beetroot Pie for Thanksgiving this year, since it’s one of my favorite AWR recipes (and TOTALLY tastes like stuffing). DON’T PANIC: It’s Just Towel Day

The Story of Tatterhood: A Mother’s Day Tribute
I owe my love of books to my mother. I remember countless nights of getting to sit in the big bed while she read The Chronicles of Narnia out loud to us. She was the sort of read-alouder who always did the voices, and nothing brings a story to life like the squeaky voice of a mouse or the deep, booming voice of a giant…though she says the mole dialect from the Redwall books was particularly tough to master!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday! At our party this weekend, my family got a great surprise: my little niece from Ohio AND my brother (who is in the Navy) were able to make it! We feasted on cracked china deviled eggs and light ‘n fluffy strawberry cake roll. Officially the best Easter ever.
Happy Pi Day!
For those who haven’t heard of it, March 14th (3/14) is National Pi Day, a day set aside in honor of the number pi (which is commonly abbreviated as 3.14). It’s kind of a big day at my house. The Mister wears his pi shirt, I bake a ton of pie, and we invite a bunch of friends over to watch Waitress (a movie about pie). Tragically, this has been a really busy week for us, so I haven’t had time to make truckloads of pie. In fact, I only had time to make one super-quick pie, so I knew I had to make it count. And that’s where this little beauty comes in…
