One of my favorite parts of The Nutcracker is when the Christmas tree grows to giant proportions. I wanted to include a tribute to the tree in our Nutcracker menu, and before long I stumbled across this clever pastry recipe from a website called Tavolartegust. I made a few changes to make it my own, and before long I had a delicious prosciutto and pesto Christmas pastry to snack on.

I think one of the best things about it is that is has that visual wow factor while still being really easy to make. You just put your filling between two layers of puff pastry, cut the pastry in a simple pattern (I’ve included visuals in the instructions below), and twist the sides into branches. Presto: instant Christmas meal! 🙂

Hannah’s Muffs: Sweet Potato Apple Bacon Turnovers

December is here, and with it all the trappings of Christmas. Since I moved in early November and didn’t get a chance to decorate for Halloween, I was determined not to let that happen for Christmas. On the first night of Advent, I set the lights low, turned on a CD of Christmas hymns, and finished almost all my decorating in one night (I saved the tree for the next day). I know I won’t always get that, so I was grateful to have it this year.

I’ve always believed that Cloud City is hands-down the most beautiful location in all of the Star Wars movies. And maybe it’s supposed to be. Maybe the stark contrast between the heavenly views and the city’s dark underbelly act as a reminder that things aren’t always as they appear.

Luckily, these cloud-shaped cheese puffs (inspired by a recipe from BHG) have all the light, fluffy delicacy of Cloud City’s ethereal panoramas without any of the dark downsides…as long as you don’t burn them! 😉

Cottleston Pie

Cottleston Pie is a bona fide Winnie the Pooh invention. Until A.A. Milne wrote a poem about it in Winnie the Pooh, it never existed. The playful little poem explains that every creature is unique and acts according to its nature, essentially saying that we’re all what we’re made to be. Simple enough, right?

The Panther’s Pasties

Entrée time! Since I’m doing this particular book in tea party format, I loathe the idea of making anything too heavy. Still, I must admit I’m a carnivore at heart and don’t feel that a meal is complete without some good ol’ meat. Luckily, my mom’s delicious beef pasties are the best of both worlds: deliciously light and fluffy, yet soooo satisfying!
